Tuscany wedding in Italy

destination wedding photographer | Castello di Gabbiano Tuscany winery wedding

I’ve decided on this frozen, wintery New England day to share something warm, fun and sunny – reliving this extraordinary wedding experience in Italy. I remember getting the call thinking – “Are they REALLY asking if I can go to Italy to photograph their wedding?!” I absolutely LOVE destination weddings, as they help break up my ‘normal’ wedding routine and really makes me push myself to create something different that showcases the locale. I know the intimate moments and reception fun are all still very important – but I feel while on location part of the job is also to give a flavor for where the destination the couple have chosen. I recall while my Hawaii wedding thinking , “I CANNOT allow these photos look like I was in Florida or anything like that!”

This couple chose the amazing and intimate Castello di Gabbiano winery, which was built in the 12th century just south of Florence in the heart of the Chianti Classic region. They have been protecting its estate- grown chianti grapes since 1124 (!!)

There were 2 ceremonies to be exact – the first one being in the medieval hamlet of Certaldo. where we all had to ride a funicular to get to the top (kinda fun!!!) The wedding started with a walk through town ending at the Palazzo Pretorio

The ride back down!!

That evening we had some relaxed fun and pizza back near the winery.

The following day was the more formal wedding in the vineyards courtyard.

Who DOESN’T love 3 pounds of Nutella??!!
