The Union League Cafe – Megan + Zac's wedding
A wedding in New Haven CT at the Union League Cafe restaurant
Megan and Zac were married this past Saturday in Guilford CT with a reception in New Haven at the Union League Cafe (simply some of the best food around – hands down!) The weather Saturday was pretty sketchy but actually held out long enough (before the skies opened like nobodies business) for us to get some cool shots outdoors, but not before a rather rushed stop indoors to the New Haven Public Library – and NOT to check out books — read on….
Elisabeth from Blush did the beautiful flowers…
Seriously? Are you kidding me–can you stand it! LOOK HOW CUTE the honorary maid of honor and best man are with the tie and necklace. I wanted to steal one of these dogs in my camera bag – they were so well behaved!!!
Megan got a little emotional once she got into her dress–
I know this is a bit of an unusual angle, but theres something about the moment I really like—

Zac was hanging out in the back of the church with his best man, trying to relax
at the church, the guys were just beginning to arrive

Megan was doing her best to hold back the tears as she came down the aisle
I LOVE this shot so much – not only for the moment but because this is angle is one most churches do not afford you as a photographer
OK – well hold on–I also REALLY love this one as well!
of course, not every guest was as excited as the bride and groom 🙂
we walked over to the Guilford green to try and shoot what we could before the rain began
Zac doing a little photobombing—
…and showing off his sassy wedding socks!
So between the time we left the green and got to New Haven the skies opened up like it was the end of the world. I of course – without an umbrella – was drenched on the walk from my car to the Union League. When I got out front the limo was already there waiting, and it turned out we could not get into the venue for 30 minutes. I threw all my stuff in the trunk and we made a snap decision to try and shoot in the public library a few blocks away.
The space was pretty dark as there were really no lights (not to mention a gaggle of people ‘holding the door’ for us while simultaneously begging for money, which made it extra-interesting) I popped out a few flashes here and there and tried to do what I could to light the space as quickly as possible.
(please note Megans dress has pockets– super cool!)
of course, a little goofing around ensued…
we were getting to leave when I went to retrive my flash and looked upstairs, noticing how cool the upper floor looked…so we didn’t EXACTLY leave just then (even though the library was about 10 minutes from closing and locking up!)
this particular shot was neat because I gave a groomsman a flash to hold pointing up at the couple from one flight down, to light them from behind for a little drama (no time to set up a light stand or anything)…and I think it really worked!
Sometimes, I surprise myself.

The Union League looked amazing—as it always does (did I mention how much I like working there and how great they treat we vendors?…)
It FINALLY stopped raining, so I got Megan and Zac outside for all of about 10 minutes to shoot a little more!
…. thanks to everyone for being such good sports with the weather situation and shooting in some less-than-perfect conditions!!!
