Mini-wedding at Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm

_____

Normally I blabber on forever.

You know the drill, I make a post and try and come up with clever quips and tales from the day. Sometimes successfully, often not as much. So when I asked Kristamarie and AJ to write some notes about their micro-wedding and what made it special to them, well…lets just say they did all the work FOR me!

(This post BTW is a prime example of what I was speaking of oil my last post, “Why Your Covid-19 Mini Wedding Will NOT Suck…”)

And besides, who wants to hear MY take on THEIR wedding when you can hear it directly from them!

Read on my friends…

Why we decided to go ahead with a small wedding?

We didn’t want to wait to get married and we knew we still wanted to get married on the day we originally planned. We figured an intimate small ceremony, outside was the safer move during the current situation.  Given the size of our immediate families we could not hold it inside a church. We also decided to have a small intimate picnic afterwards with individually wrapped meals for everyone to celebrate as they are comfortable.    We kept it to our immediate families as it was very important to us for them to be there to participate in our special occasion.  We are both very close with our families.  It was also an added bonus that Mika (our dog) could be there with us as our flower girl.

Favorite Memory

AJ: having all our family together with Mika there to celebrate

Kristamarie: not in any special order, but two top memories are:

1) Driving on the tractor with my Dad… overlooking our favorite view when he said… you ready? and I said yes and he said let’s do this and then started driving towards the aisle…

2) When we were saying our own vows to each other… the wind was blowing, rain drizzling a little, and the sky was dark.  I remember taking a second to capture the moment in my memory. I was laughing inside that it was raining, but also super happy outside to be circled by our loved ones on top of the hill as I declared my love and promises to this man before me.

The meaning of the location

The location was Kristamarie’s favorite spot on the her family’s farm,   She often gets goosebumps coming over the ridge there and taking in the Hudson valley views when driving the tractor and/or mowing.  In between the vineyard and Christmas trees is particularly meaningful as AJ’s first exposure to the farm was during Christmas tree season, he also proposed to her in the Christmas trees on the farm.  It was perfect spot in between the Christmas trees and vineyard with the apple trees not too far away.

How we feel about the wedding next year

Throughout this whole thing (pandemic) we are doing our best to look at the positive.  We feel fortunate that we get to celebrate our love twice in two different scenarios… one small and intimate, and one big with all our friends and family.  I myself (Kristamarie) am excited as I get to wear two dresses, and two hair styles (one down this year bc don’t have to worry about getting sweaty, and then up next year for the dance party!!) We are very much looking forward to celebrating with everyone in a big party.  We also plan to renew our vows at our 1st anniversary in the church that Kristamarie’s cousin, aunts, mom and Grandmother were married in!   We can only imagine how fast the day will go as our wedding ceremony this year went by super quick!!

Looking back on the day , we (AJ and Kristamarie) talked about it and think that getting married in the small ceremony with our immediate families, Grandmother and Mika, outside on the farm on the top of the hill was the way it was supposed to be.  It simply felt like us! A tractor ride, outside on the farm near the Christmas trees… with Mika, our siblings, in-laws, nephew, parents and Grandmother witnessing… and then the picnic to celebrate with italian food and funfetti cupcakes.

All together it is us.

This looks awesome, guys. So happy to be able to get a glimpse of your day, and from the pictures seems just about perfect. Looking forward to seeing you both this fall, or winter, or next year…! We shall see.

[Quick tip… save a copy of the blogpost (save as: webpage – complete). Brynn and I had an engagement and wedding blog and when the server revamped their software it deleted all posts beyond 5 years, and our memories, thoughts and recollections on the engagement process unfortunately disappeared with it.]

    Robert,
Simply beautiful! This couple, their families and all attendees were there to celebrate a wedding between two people who love each other. No drama, no grand event for the social calendar…it’s a beautiful wedding. I guessing next year will be as beautiful with more friends and family but without drama, just love.
Thanks for sharing this wedding with us.
