a New Haven Lawn Club Wedding – Jennifer+Ryan
a New Haven wedding at the Art Deco New Haven Lawn Club | CT wedding photography
Jennifer and Ryan were married this past April and held their reception at the gorgeous New Haven Lawn Club. It was a perfectly beautiful Spring day (giving me amazing light which always makes me a happy camper) Ryan an the fella’s get ready at the Omni Hotel in downtown New Haven, while Jennifer got prepared at her Moms house…..
Ryan’s men helped him get dressed in a traditional Greek fashion. I thought that was an interesting tradition so I looked it up:
“On the day of the ceremony, the groom’s friends will gather to help him get ready. His best man – called the “koumbaro” – will shave the groom. This shows the trust between them. The koumbaro will also stand by the groom during the ceremony, and has other obligations like procuring the wedding crowns. All the other friends present help to dress the groom. One might button the shirt. Another might put the jacket on him. That way they all have a symbolic role in getting him ready.”
We skipped the shaving part however for the sake of time!

You probably know what i’m always looking for candid ‘portraits’ on a wedding day (typically of the older guests) and this Gentleman’s face just called out for an image!
JC was shooting up in the balcony and got this great angle of the crown exchange
Another amazing face!
A little “we did it!” high-five!
We were getting ready to leave and I was packing the car when I spotted this amazing barn (I’m a sucker for barns), so I ran my butt off back to their shuttle which thankfully had not left!

We continued our formals at The New Haven Lawn Club
I just LOVE Ryan’s expression in this one!
Since we had a little time, we took a stroll to one of my favorite streets in New Haven, just a block or 2 from The Club.
They started walking back to the venue and when I looked back all I saw was this golden canopy of trees and light! This shot made my day!!
They sneak into the room for a quick peek before the guests rush in, and Jennifer is a bit taken aback by the lovliness .

It’s hard to pick a favorite angle of The Lawn Club!
My buddy Dan from Shindig Lighting was on hand as well to light the room perfectly. “There’s nothing like a good pin spot.” I always say. (boy, that sounds dorky!)
As stunning as it is in color, something about the retro nature of this space lends itself so well to B&W. And you know i’m all about The Retro!
